Q: You offer a Paging Pendant or "PERS" system (sometimes called a Panic Pendant). Isn't this all I need?

A: A paging pendant is certainly a valuable tool. If you fall or have an accident, you can press the call button, worn on a wristband or around your neck, and summon certified emergency medical technicians - or your choice of caregiver. SimplyHome technology even enables you to describe your problem to a certified EMT via the two-way base station before help arrives. But, what if you can't press the call button because you are unconscious or aren't wearing it? Panic buttons are only helpful if the user can press the button. If this is a concern, the SimplyHome Basic and Butler systems provide that additional support because they are not dependent on (but can still include) a panic pendant. Instead, the systems incorporate motion detectors and other sensors that will automatically send alerts if certain preset conditions are met, such as no detectable activity for a specified length of time.

Q: Some systems I have seen offer a connection to a central station or call center. Does SimplyHome offer this capability as well?

A: A central station is a call center to which emergency notifications (or alerts) can be sent. We provide a constant connection between our clients and a central station fully staffed by certified EMTs. Caregivers and residents can decide together how the SimplyHome system will send alerts, and to whom. Certain alerts can be directed to a call center, while others will be directed to designated caregivers. Alerts can be programmed to go to one or more phones, a personal computer and/or handheld device. The SimplyHome system allows you to tailor these supports to fit your needs.

Q: What makes SimplyHome different from other in-home support systems?

A: SimplyHome is different in that we offer a wide range of personalized solutions for caregivers. Whether it's our affordable PERS system (with paging pendant), the comprehensive Butler package (with stove sensor, medication supports and environmental controls), or something in between, our goal is an improved quality of life for you and your loved ones through the latest and most adaptive assistive technology. Also, our advanced trending reports and on-going assessments help to ensure that your system continues to meet your needs as they change over time.

Q: Other Independent Living systems seem to require a phone line or broadband connection in the residence. What is required for SimplyHome systems?

A: SimplyHome systems allow family members and caregivers to stay connected to residents in a variety of ways. The SimplyHome Basic system is unique because it is completely wireless - no phone line or internet connection is needed. The system sends notices and alerts through an internal wireless connection and can be placed almost anywhere inside the home. Our basic PERS system utilizes a normal phone line. The Butler system, our most comprehensive offering, uses a home broadband connection and a phone line. Set-up is simple and we can help you determine the right connection choice.

Q: What is "rule setting" and how does it work with SimplyHome?

A: Rule setting is how you specify the activities you want your SimplyHome system to track and record and how/who you want to be notified if there is a problem or unplanned event. We set up rules based on the needs indicated by the initial assessment. Some examples:
"If the back door is open after 10 p.m., send an email to [Family Member A] and a text message to [Caregiver B]."
"If Grandma gets out of bed and leaves the house before taking her medications, call [Family Member A]."
"If the stovetop is left on for more than 1 hour, call [Family Member B]."
"If the living room window is open after 7 p.m., send a text message to [Caregiver A]."
All rules and alerts can be easily changed. You can also view a log of recent activities via our password-protected website: "Grandma accessed her medicine at 9 a.m."

Q: Can the SimplyHome system be relocated if I move?

A: It is very easy to move any SimplyHome system. All sensors are wireless and the base station can be placed on a table or mounted on a wall. There is no fee for the transfer of the SimplyHome system to a new residence. All it takes is a few minutes of set-up to ensure the same supports and independence enjoyed in the previous location.

Q: What about privacy?

A: We understand your concern. Any time we talk about assistive technology supports in caregiving, it is important to find a balance between necessary observation and intrusive behavior. We believe the solutions offered by SimplyHome are the least intrusive options available. The constant presence of homecare workers or live-in caregivers allows elderly or disabled residents much less privacy. Our products and services are designed to allow individuals to live with maximum independence. To us, this is the ultimate in supportive and non-intrusive care.

Q: You say SimplyHome systems are easy to use but I'm still a little worried. Can you help me with the set-up?

A: Absolutely. We know the idea of new technology can be confusing or intimidating. Although installation of all our systems is simple and straightforward, some customers still request help. For this reason we have partnered with a national company, Mr. Handyman, to provide installation assistance for a small additional fee. Just ask and we will contact your local Mr. Handyman to set up an installation. Their technicians are insured, wear uniforms and drive clearly marked vans.

Q: What happens if I decide I no longer need my SimplyHome system? What if I want to upgrade my system to include more safety features?

A: We understand that needs may change at any time. Unlike other companies in the emergency alert field, we don't have any annual contracts. We believe you should only pay for what you need. If you no longer need a SimplyHome subscription, you can cancel the next month's payment immediately.
What happens more often, however, is that families and caregivers initially purchase our Personal Alert System for basic support and later decide that they want the expanded capabilities of our other offerings. If this happens, we can help you upgrade at any time. SimplyHome is unique in that all levels of care can be supported by our systems. We are always available to help customize a solution to your individual requirements.
